Send Greirat to pillage. Travel to Smouldering Lake via the rope bridge. Cut the bridge, go down, light the Old King's Antechamber bonfire, run past the Sandworm and light the Demon Ruins bonfire. Defeat the Old Demon King. Return to Firelink Shrine and be happy that you can now run past the Sewer Centipedes without stopping to get Greirat's Ashes.
